Mass in Motion - Municipal Wellness
and Leadership Grant Program
The Mass in Motion (www.mass.gov/massinmotion/)
campaign, launched by the Department of Public Health in
January of 2009, aims to promote wellness and to prevent
overweight and obesity in Massachusetts - with a particular
focus on the importance of healthy eating and physical
activity - at home, at work, and in our communities. Mass In
Motion is the first statewide health initiative to be
supported by all of the Commonwealth's major health-funding
foundations. These partners have generously agreed to
contribute funding that will allow for community wellness
grants to be awarded throughout Massachusetts, as part of
the Mass in Motion multi-faceted approach.
These grants to cities and towns are to make wellness
initiatives a priority at the community level. The Medical
Foundation, on behalf of and in collaboration with the
Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and partners:
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Harvard Pilgrim
Health Care Foundation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of
Massachusetts Foundation, MetroWest Community Health Care
Foundation, Tufts Health Plan Foundation, and the Boston
Foundation, is pleased to announce the Mass in Motion -
Municipal Wellness and Leadership Request for Responses (RFR)
for municipalities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The
Mass in Motion - Municipal Wellness and Leadership Grant
Program is designed to build capacity at the municipal level
to create a sustained approach for active living and healthy
eating with a long term goal of reducing the burden of
chronic disease.
Approximately ten municipalities will be funded for up to
two years to plan, assess, initiate, and/or expand the
implementation of policy and environmental/systems
approaches that support healthy eating and active living.

year.
The RFR will be released on Monday, March 16, 2009.
